A Decade of Three Jan Suraksha Schemes

On 9th May 2025, three flagship social security schemes—PMJJBY, PMSBY, and APY—completed ten years of providing affordable insurance and pension cover to millions of Indians.

Scheme	Details
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)	Purpose: Life insurance for death due to any reason for those aged 18–50. Premium & Benefit: Rs. 436 per annum for a cover of Rs. 2 lakh.
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)	Purpose: Accidental death and disability cover for individuals aged 18–70. Premium & Benefit: Rs. 20 per annum; provides Rs. 2 lakh for death/full disability and Rs. 1 lakh for partial disability.
Atal Pension Yojana (APY)	Purpose: Old-age income security for the unorganised sector aged 18–40. Benefit: Guaranteed monthly pension of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000 after age 60, with spouse and nominee benefits.

Original Launch: PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY were launched on 9 May 2015.
Milestone: Completed 10 years in May 2025.
PMJJBY: Life cover of Rs. 2 lakh for the 18–50 age group.
PMSBY: Accident cover for the 18–70 age group at low annual premium.
APY: Pension scheme mainly for unorganised-sector workers aged 18–40.
