COVID Vaccine: UK approves Oxford vaccine

  • The COVID-19 vaccine by Oxford Universty and AstraZeneca has been approved for emergency supply in the U.K.
  • This is significant for India, as the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) has tied up with AstraZeneca to deploy the vaccine in the country.
  • Unlike the Pfizer vaccine that needs to be stored at -70 and -80 degree Celsius, Oxford can be stored at 2-8 degree Celsius.
  • Mr. Poonawala said Oxford vaccine will be priced at a maximum of Rs. 1000 for 2 doses for the public, depending on the final trial results and regulatory approvals.
