Vibrant Villages Programme Phase II

The Vibrant Villages Programme Phase II was launched on February 20, 2026 in Assam. It expands development support to India’s border villages and combines infrastructure creation with livelihood generation and strategic security.

Border villages are important not only for development but also for national security. Better roads, telecom, power, water supply, tourism and employment can reduce out-migration and keep frontier regions socially and economically active.

Aspect Details
Phase I VVP-I covered 662 villages along northern borders in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Sikkim.
Phase II VVP-II expands to 17 States and Union Territories along borders with Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar.
Infrastructure Focus on all-weather roads, telecom, power and reliable water supply.
Livelihoods Economic hubs, tourism, heritage and entrepreneurship are encouraged to prevent out-migration.
Skills Skill-development efforts aim to build resilient local economies.
