NASA's Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer

NASA's Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer

  • Recently, using NASA's Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer, astronomers examined a supernova explosion that took place more than 450 years ago (IXPE).
  • People on Earth were able to see the Tycho explosion in 1572, and the blast's shock wave is still resonating throughout the cosmos.

Describe Tycho

  • Tycho is categorised as a Type Ia supernova, which happens when a white dwarf star rips apart its partner star, causing a catastrophic explosion and shooting material into space at extremely high velocities.
  • Tycho launched particles into space at speeds close to the speed of light and expended as much energy as the Sun would in ten billion years.
  • In order to learn more about how particles are driven nearby Tycho's shock wave and to examine polarised X-rays from the supernova remnant, researchers employed IXPE to disclose the magnetic field geometry.

Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer: What is it?

  • About: NASA and the Italian Space Agency collaborated to create the IXPE Space Observatory.
  • The most extreme and enigmatic objects in the universe, including supernova remnants, supermassive black holes, and numerous other high-energy objects, are studied by it.
  • Importance: It will make it easier to study polarised X-ray emissions from supermassive black holes and neutron stars.
  • X-ray polarisation measurements can be used to reconstruct the origin of the light, including the geometry and internal structure of the source.

It will clarify how black holes rotate, where they were located in the past, and why pulsars flare so brightly in X-rays.

Anti-Defection Law in India

The Supreme Court of India recently gave a final three-week deadline to the Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide pending disqualification petitions against defecting MLAs under the Anti-Defection Law. What is the Anti-Defection Law? The Anti-Defection Law was introduced through the 52nd Amendment (1985), which added the Tenth Schedule to the

Rat-Hole Mining

A major disaster unfolded in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, when at least 18 workers died following an explosion in an illegally operating rat-hole coal mine. This incident highlights the continued prevalence of rat-hole mining despite bans imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court of India. Rat-hole mining is driven

India’s Aviation Sector

India’s aviation sector has grown rapidly, becoming a major economic success story. However, regulatory oversight has not evolved at the same pace. Data-driven monitoring of fares and market behavior is essential to ensure fair competition, prevent market abuse, and shift from reactive crisis management to proactive regulation. Challen

Federalism in India

Recently, a high-level committee on Union–State relations submitted its first report to the Government of Tamil Nadu. The report examines the distribution of powers and responsibilities between the Union and the States, highlighting ongoing debates regarding the balance between central authority and state autonomy.
