Causes:

  • Fundamentalism: Ruling Hindu Nationalists encouraged scapegoating Muslims, who were blamed for the spread of the virus.
  • Attack on Press Freedom citing use of Security, Defamation, Sedition and Contempt of Court laws.
  • Revelations of relationships between politicians, business executives and lobbyists on one hand, and Media Personalities and owners of Media houses on another hand, denting public confidence.
