  • Brahmos is the first supersonic cruise missile to enter service.Capable of attaining a speed ofMach 2.8 (almost three times thespeed of sound), it has a range of atleast 290 km (a new version canreach up to 400km).
  • Travelling with such velocitymeans that it would be difficult forair defence systems utilising surfacetoair missiles to intercept theBrahMos while making it easier for it to target and neutralise advanced fighter jets such as the Chinese J20 fighter aircraft moving at less than Mach 2.
